Sonkul is a remote mountain lake situated on a high, treeless plateau at 3016m. Shepherds bring their livestock to the area in the summer season, setting up yurt camps where they live until the Autumn. In this magnificent wilderness you can see hundreds of herds and countless white yurts across the pastures. No doubt you’ll be invited to try kymyz – the national drink made of fermented mare’s milk – with some traditional bread. But don’t forget to try other dairy products, creams, butters and homemade jams. Dinner and overnight in yurts.
